The main element of the new concept for the square is a ring of permanent and temporary structures integrated into the space. This has significantly improved the definition of this area in terms of the scale of a public space. On one side, the ring delineates the square’s space—intended, among other things, for gatherings and public events—while on the other side, it creates a shopping street in connection with the existing buildings. Here, the design takes into account the recently renovated Penny Market and shopping center buildings.

The ring itself is divided into six freestanding segments, three of which are designed as permanent structures (a café, a fast-food outlet with a stage, and support facilities for the stalls). The three remaining segments are designed as lightweight market stalls with membrane roofing. The division of the ring was done, among other reasons, to ensure the greatest possible accessibility of the square along all existing traffic routes.

The ring’s structures are located in the southern part of the square. In the northern part, more space is devoted to greenery, which serves as both a visual and acoustic barrier to traffic on Poděbradská Street. Other functional elements of the square include a children’s playground adjacent to the café and a water feature featuring the relocated abstract sculpture “Fuga” from 1966.

The paved areas within the project site will feature varied paving patterns, with the interior of the ring paved differently (in terms of material, format, and color) than the surrounding areas. In the gaps between the segments—that is, in the walkways—these pathways will be emphasized by the surface of the surrounding paths extending into the distinct paving of the square’s center.
