In light of Prague’s development trends, it is clear that the Motolský potok valley is set to undergo a transformation. There is growing pressure to turn Plzeňská Street into a city boulevard, transforming the area from a transportation corridor into a hub for commercial services, culture, and other services. The site has the potential to initiate this change and prepare for it over the long term. The study does not focus solely on individual streets but defines the urban space of the Motol Valley, which aspires to become a functionally and operationally significant urban corridor. Motol Valley will become the epicentre of life west of Anděl and a link connecting the neighbouring parts of Prague 5. The study defines Plzeňská as a residential street with public transportation, Vrchlického as a boulevard, connects parks into a green axis, and initiates the creation of new local centres. It is motivational in nature, aiming to realize the vision of a multifunctional area that can serve not only local residents in a sustainable manner but also hold its own within the broader context of the entire Smíchov district…and Prague.
The participatory process that preceded the study identified five core themes (transportation, development and the city, landscape, the center and facilities, and visual qualities), which the study addresses at all levels of design—from the overall concept through land-use regulations to the details of key public spaces.
