The personal and professional affinity between patron Truus Schröder-Schräder and Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld led to the creation of the Rietveld Schröder House in 1924, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2000. The documentary Living in a Piece of Furniture offers a comprehensive look at the work of this iconic designer, a member of the De Stijl art movement, with special attention given to this seminal work. The house was a great experiment born from mutual inspiration and close collaboration between both partners, and Rietveld subsequently used the principles employed here in the creation of his other works.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the film's director, Lex Reitsma.
The event is part of the Film and Architecture Festival.
