Mon Oncle

Monsieur Hulot lives in the old folk district where dogs still run around the streets and people still find time to stop for a chat alongside a greeting. Monsieur Hulot's sister, on the other hand, lives in a modern upscale neighborhood where her husband, a wealthy industrialist, has built a super-modern villa, as alienating in terms of technology as it is in terms of its mostly impractical design. What happens when these two worlds collide? This French-Italian grotesque, made in 1958 by Jacques Tati, is an extraordinary glimpse into the alienated and mechanised world as it was imagined at the time.
