Prager's Cubes How is the view on post-war architecture changing and how can its qualities be preserved for the 21st century? Come and see what awaits the former Association of Project Studios in Emauzy. Architect Benedikt Markel will guide you through the history and future of the complex, which was completed in 1975 based on a design by Karel Prager and Jiří Kadeřábek. Between 2027 and 2030, the three pavilions will undergo sensitive renovation based on a design by the IXA studio, while their immediate surroundings and greenery will be redesigned by landscape architects Land05.
You will learn about the bold steel structure and assembly elements from the GAMA system, whose most striking feature is the light perimeter cladding—facades whose contrast with the heavy bases lined with ceramic and stone elements determines the character of the entire complex. We will also talk about the details of the original interior and their reinterpretation for the present day, and how to build on the unfinished visions of the original authors – for example, by opening up the roof terraces. The renovation of the complex will show how this important building can be "refreshed" for the 21st century and transformed into a modern institution open to the public.
The event is part of the Day of Architecture festival.
