Prague Public Transit Company celebrates 150 years!

Exactly 150 years ago, on September 23, 1875, the first Prague horse-drawn tramway was put into operation between the National Theatre, which was then under construction, and Karlín, which was still an independent city at the time. This significant anniversary will be commemorated by a special event prepared by the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP). Visitors can expect a captivating look at the development of urban transport – from horse-drawn trams to cable cars, buses, trolleybuses, metro, and modern electric buses. The program will be complemented by expert lectures, screenings of historical photographs, interactive elements and a debate about the future of public transport in the metropolis. Come celebrate with us this history that significantly shaped Prague and discover what transport challenges await us in the coming decades.

Event schedule:

  • 13:00 History of Prague Public Transport: Robert Mara / Head of DPP Archives
  • 15:00 Tram network: history, development, future: Miroslav Penc / Head of Tram Infrastructure, DPP
  • 17:00 Trolleybuses: return, development and future / Ondřej Kubišta / Head of Administrative Affairs, DPP
  • 19:00 Metro and automation / Michal Borecký / Head of Strategy and Project Department, DPP
