The Cathedral

It is 1961, and 28-year-old Justo Gallego decides to build a cathedral in a small town on the outskirts of Madrid. For the next 60 years of his life, he devotes all his time and energy to its construction. While everyone thinks he is crazy, Justo turns this eccentric idea into reality and builds a cathedral rivaling the Sagrada Família with his own two hands. With no architectural training whatsoever, he makes history in Spain, where a grandiose structure made of recycled materials now stands. Visually arresting and highly rewarding for the viewer, this documentary uses a wealth of archival material to vividly capture a story of endless will and determination.

A discussion with director Denis Dobrovoda will follow the screening of the film.
